Current TV issues

One issue we have identified is reminders. They are only on the TV, so if TV is off you then miss the reminder. This could be solved by sending push notifications to your device e.g. smartphone or tablet. There is also an increasing amount of "spoilers" on social media, which means that we don't want push notifications that give anything away.

In a family, we believe that there is not enough space on the box for recordings. People also seem to record programmes for no reason, when a programme is available on catch up. According to Virgin media, 43% of viewers now mostly watch time shifted TV - which means there is an opportunity for us to improve real-time TV (or as we like to call it, casual TV viewing).

Virgin Media have identified that 4 in 10 people switch shows depending on their mood, so there is a window for mood-induced TV to be implemented.

Mr. Everett-Church, a privacy consultant for businesses, predicts that "as techno-profiling increases, more people will purposely muck up their profiles. They'll fear ordering books on mental illnesses or sexual preferences because they'll wonder if they'll somehow be publicly identified." - we felt that we wanted to increase the personalisation of TV, but we would have to be careful that this does not have a negative effect on people.
